Indian Fan Injured During World Cup Celebrations in London

Indian cricket fans celebrated their T20 World Cup victory in London, where one fan was injured while hoisting the flag. Despite the incident, the jubilant celebrations marked India's first World Cup title in 13 years.

Indian cricket fans took to the streets of London to celebrate the Indian Cricket Team’s T20 World Cup victory on Saturday. However, the jubilant festivities took a turn for one fan who ended up with a bloodied face after an accident while trying to hoist the Indian flag atop a pole outside Queensbury tube station.

Incident Details

A video of the incident shows the fan attempting to climb a pole to place the Indian flag at the top. Unfortunately, he lost his grip and fell, resulting in cuts and bruises on his face. Despite his injuries, he was seen stable and able to walk shortly after the fall.

Celebrations Across London

The celebrations were widespread, with significant gatherings on Ealing Road and in Harrow. Fireworks and revelry marked the joyous occasion as fans celebrated India’s first World Cup title in 13 years.

  • Harrow: Fireworks lit up the night as fans continued their jubilant celebrations.

India’s Victory

India secured their T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa by seven runs at Kensington Oval. Virat Kohli played a stellar innings, scoring 76 runs off 59 balls, while Hardik Pandya took three crucial wickets, helping India clinch their second ICC T20 championship.

Retirement Announcements

Following the victory, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirements from international T20 cricket.

  • Virat Kohli: During his Player of the Match interview, Kohli announced his retirement, stating, “This was my last T20 World Cup. It is time for the new generation to come through for India now. We have some amazing players coming through and they have to take this team forwards now.”
  • Rohit Sharma: In his post-match press conference, Captain Rohit Sharma revealed, “This was my last game as well. There’s no better time to say goodbye to this format. I’ve loved every moment of this. I started my India career in T20 and this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to win the cup and say goodbye.”
